ABOUT

ABOUT

The Budhia Foundation is project space that creates opportunities for emerging artists from around Europe. We provide young artists and recent graduates with a platform that is both engaging and challenging.

Our program is divided into two seasons- The Spring/Summer Collection and The Autumn/Winter Collection.

Artists are commissioned for a period of one month to make works specially for the Foundation's Amsterdam Project Space that explore the thematics of a chosen text.
All commissions remain in the space for the entire duration of the Season.

Over the course of the season, an act of 'collection' occurs.
We 'build' a collection that is thematically coherent but varied in style and methodology and this helps provide a more rounded understanding of the text we chose to begin with and also the works of each commissioned artist. This collection is unveiled to our audience at a Season Finale.

At the Budhia Foundation we believe we have a duty to the artworks we display and to the audience that views it. This duty is that of creating an environment of exploration and understanding.
With this in mind, we curate events such as talks and screenings relevant to the works of the artist-in-commission. The artist is encouraged to be active participants in this decision making process.

Our longstanding partnership with Sandberg Instituut ensures commissioned artists access to the workshops at the Rietveld Academie, which aids in the process of realising their projects for the Budhia Foundation.

«Consider the short, 16mm film of Kennedy’s death. Shot by a spectator in the crowd, it is a long take, the most typical long take imaginable... In this, the only possible film of Kennedy’s death, all other points of view are missing: that of Kennedy and Jacqueline, that of assassin himself and his accomplices, that of those with a better vantage point, and that of the police escorts, etc. Suppose we have footage shots from all those points of view, what would we have?»
(Pier Paolo Pasolini,

Observations on the long take

, 1980)

This season: Fiction-The lens to perceive contours of what we experience as reality; Evidence or the lack thereof; the stories that never get told or those that get told so often no one knows where they came from to begin with. The spaces between point A and point B, the etcetera etcetera and the something something.

☂BF001— (June 2016 to October 2016) features new works by Darcey Bennett, Agathe Daigremont, Floris Schönfeld and Andrew de Freitas.
